Working in the UK during your study
Before you take any employment in the UK, you must check your passport visa sticker or Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) to see if you have permissions to work in the UK, as your right to work will depend on the type of visa you have been granted.
If your visa states ‘No work’ or ‘Work Prohibited’, this means you are not permitted to work in the UK.
The number of hours you may work depend on what you are studying and if you are working in or out of term-time.
If your are permitted to work in the UK during your study, you must comply with the number of hours per week you are allowed and ensure you meet your visa conditions. If you breach the rules, you may have serious consequences on your right of study in the UK and your immigration status.
You can find information on whether you will be permitted to work in the UK while you study, the number of hours you may work, and the type of work you can and cannot do on the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) website.
